Continuous Student Achievement

Student achievement is the number one priority in the IZone. IZone students improved proficiency ratings by 10 percentage points compared to the state of Tennessee’s 3.5 point gain. In science, the IZone scored 13.4 percent more proficient over the State’s 2.1 percent gain; and in social studies, students gained 11.9 percent points compared to the State’s 0.8 percentage point gains.

Collaborative Vision

All IZone principals, teachers and central office staff work together for one unified vision: move all IZone schools from the bottom 5% to the top 25%. Each teacher, principal and district leader is committed, motivated and driven to ensure continued growth in student achievement in the IZone.

Strong Instructional Culture

IZone school and district leaders are committed to having a strong instructional culture where both teachers and students thrive. Though the work is challenging, our teachers report in our instructional culture survey that the IZone is a good place to teach and for students to learn.

From district leadership to school-level leaders, each IZone leader has a proven track record of academic success. The effectiveness of school leaders is evident in the gains made in student achievement since the IZone’s inception in 2012.

Relevant Professional Development

The IZone is deeply invested in its teachers and leaders. In the IZone, teachers have the opportunity to experience targeted content-specific development that is aligned with Tennessee State Standards and current teaching best practices. Our leaders are given professional development opportunities that ensure they are growing.

Teachers

Teachers have the largest single school effect on student academic performance especially in turnaround schools where the need to quickly improve student achievement from year to year is critical. In the IZone, our teachers are not only leaders in their classrooms, but they are leaders in their school and in the community. We’re seeking teachers who believe that all students can achieve academic success.

Turnaround School Leaders

The ability to turnaround schools requires strong and courageous school leaders who are willing to be innovative and think outside of the box to identify how to best support the needs of students. The IZone seeks experienced school leaders who have the talent and skills to shift the culture of low-performing schools from continuous failure to academic excellence. Our leaders are passionate, dedicated and understand how our work significantly impacts students, families and the community-at-large.

Innovation Zone Administrative Staff

The central office team comprises of administrative support team and a school instructional support team that centrally supports all IZone schools. We’re seeking talented individuals who can bring a big picture perspective to support IZone schools in our efforts to support turning around low-performing schools.
